7 Austin FC players are free agents in 2024, worth $3.7 million in wages – CAPITAL CITY SOCCER

MLS Players Association (MLSPA) released its 2024 list of free agents and seven players from Austin FC are on it.

Players who are at least 24 years-old with 5+ years of MLS service can enter free agency, according to MLSPA.

Ethan Finlay, on the MLSPA Executive Board, is the only player out of contract, giving him the freedom to negotiate a new deal with any club for the 2024 season. The other six players have a club option, allowing ATX first rights to keep the player.

Here’s the full MLSPA list of all 150 free-agency eligible players (including those with an option year).

Austin’s seven free agents have a combined wage bill of $3.7 million.

Alex Ring, a designated player, commands the highest salary of the group ($1.6 million), followed by Maxi Urruti ($736K).

Here’s the complete list of ATX free agents, along with their position, contract type, and guaranteed compensation for 2023.

Ultimately, it will be up to Sporting Director Rodo Borrell as he weighs potentially freeing up millions of dollars to bring in new players for next season. From his public comments, it will take multiple transfer windows to attain his vision of a championship-caliber roster.

If last year was any indication, the result will be a mix of keeping some players and releasing others. Of the 2023 free agents, ATXFC retained two players—Brad Stuver and Hector Jiménez—and declined the option on three others.

Name Position Contract
Danny Hoesen F Declined
Hector Jiménez D Re-signed
Felipe Martins M Declined
Brad Stuver GK Re-signed
Andrew Tarbell GK Declined

Grab your bucket of popcorn because if the trade of Diego Fagundez is any indication, Rodo could have some massive moves up his sleeve come December.

Who do you think Austin should keep?
